Pterosaur Table

Weekly Online Writing Critique
📅Tuesdays at 20:00
📍on Zoom
Pterosaur Table is our weekly online critique session; the steady heartbeat of JCW.
This is where members share short pieces of work, receive thoughtful feedback, and have real conversations about craft. We focus on what each writer is trying to achieve, what’s landing effectively, and where clarity or impact could be strengthened. The goal isn’t to “fix” anyone’s work — it’s to help each other develop sharper instincts and stronger drafts.
What to expect
-
We meet every Tuesday at 20:00 on Zoom.
-
One to two writers submit short pieces in advance (shared via Discord).
-
Everyone reads beforehand.
-
During the session, we discuss each piece.
-
Feedback is constructive, specific, and usually based on questions put forward by the writer.
You don’t have to submit — many members mostly contributing to discussion. If you’re new to critique, don’t worry. We’re direct, but we’re kind. No shredding. No showing off. Just thoughtful conversation about writing.
Come weekly or drop in when it suits you — both are completely normal.
Carnotaurus Café

In-Person Writing Meetup in Poole
(Also known as Tea with Trevor.)
📅 First & Third Tuesdays of each month
📍 Café Nero, Poole
Carnotaurus Café is our relaxed, real-world meetup for writers who want company without pressure.
We gather in a café in Poole for coffee, conversation, and quiet writing time. Some people chat. Some people draft. Some people do both. There’s no formal structure, no critique circle, and no expectation to “perform productivity.”
What to expect
-
A friendly table of writers.
-
Laptops, notebooks, tea.
-
Conversation about projects, publishing, craft, or whatever’s currently derailing your draft.
-
Quiet stretches for focused writing.
You can stay for twenty minutes or two hours. You can write 1,000 words or none. It’s about showing up, being around other writers, and making writing feel like a shared activity rather than a solitary battle.
If Pterosaur Table is where we sharpen the tools, Carnotaurus Café is where we remember we like using them.
